Dr. Zebulon Miletsky - Title: "The Other Brahmins: Boston’s Black Upper Class, 1750-1950"
Presentation & Discussion: Revisiting Dr. Adelaide Cromwell’s ‘The Other Brahmins: Boston’s Black Upper Class, 1750-1950’ 2025 will mark the 30th anniversary of the publication of the late Adelaide Cromwell’s classic text ‘The Other Brahmins: Boston’s Black Upper Class, 1750-1950’. Join us for a talk with nationally acclaimed historian Zebulon V. Miletsky, Ph.D., author of ‘Before Busing: A History of Boston’s Long Black Freedom Struggle’ as he discusses the career of this inspiring scholar who was one of the first to tell the story of privileged African Americans in Boston and Massachusetts and their traditions.

Hanif Omar, MBA - Title: "Black Entrepreneurship: Yesterday, Today, & Tomorrow"
Presentation & Discussion: We will unpack the history of business activity for African Americans and highlight the success of specific geographic regions in establishing strong business participation (i.e. Atlanta, Cleveland, Tulsa, etc.), and integrate the concepts of business disparity, innovation, and entrepreneurship to establish a foundational level understanding of the traditions of business participation for African Americans. Moreover, we will delve into how historically, access to capital has been the leading concern of minority-owned businesses, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. As Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs) work to recover from the effects of the pandemic, the same remains true. Minority-owned businesses often face challenges in securing business loans from traditional lenders. What are tangible solutions and action steps to move forward in the current & future business environment?

Jaquair Gillette - Title: "Film, Poetry and Spoken Word: From Ancient African Civilizations to Modern Day"
Presentation & Discussion: Poetry comes in many forms throughout the world-starting from the ancient civilizations of Africa and Europe to the modern day. In this presentation, we will explore poetry, Spoken Word, and the history of Black artists on Martha's Vineyard.
