Sun, 06 Oct, 02:00 PM
The African American Heritage Trail of Martha's Vineyard will unveil the tall sculpture of Rebecca, the Woman of Africa made by renowned sculptor, Barney Zeitz, at Native Earth Teaching Farm on North Road in Chilmark on Sunday, October 6. This is a celebration of the life of this enslaved woman who died a free woman in 1801 and whose story is an important part of Vineyard history.
We will begin at 2 p.m. with music from the Black Brook Singers of Aquinnah. In keeping with our theme of saving history for the young people, children will unveil the sculpture at 3 pm. The musical entertainment will continue with drumming and percussion by Rick Bausman. Everyone is welcome to join us. Food by Aquila will be served.

This dynamic experimental film explores the life, work, and creative processes of influential British musician and artist Brian Eno, known for pioneering the genre of ambient music, releasing over 40 solo and collaborative albums, and producing David Bowie, Devo, U2, Coldplay, and Talking Heads, among many others. Focusing on Eno’s innovative career, this cutting-edge film reimagines the traditional documentary form; it continuously evolves by using generative AI, a database of 30 hours of interviews with Eno, and 500 hours of his personal film archive to create a new film with 52 quintillion possible combinations! This means that the chances of two exact copies of the film being generated are nearly zero, offering a fresh perspective on each viewing. In that way, it not only captures the essence of Eno’s groundbreaking impact on music, art, and technology over the past five decades, but also mirrors his own methods of composing music.

A four-time Israeli Film Academy award nominee, this film is a heartwarming comedy about mistaken identity. It follows Aumari, a young Eritrean refugee who is mistaken for a professional soccer player and ends up revitalizing the struggling Israeli team he joins. As he also falls for the team owner's daughter, he grapples with the fear of his true identity being discovered. Starring up-and-coming Israeli-Congolese actor Chancela Mongoza and other African migrants, the film combines humor with a poignant glimpse into the life of immigrants.

Widely considered to be the first true horror film, this silent classic is over 100 years old but still inspires dread. At a carnival in a German town, a mysterious stranger exhibits a wooden cabinet. The somnambulist within, he claims, has the ability to predict the future. When two men in the crowd ask for a reading and are told that one of them will die by sunrise, and this comes to pass, the other tries to solve the mystery of his friend's death. Both cinematically and culturally revolutionary, this film’s Expressionist style not only mirrored the fear and paranoia of Germany between the first two World Wars but has influenced generations of filmmakers.

In this psychological thriller from Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh, a family discovers they are not alone after moving into a new house, leading to an eerie unraveling of secrets. With its slow-burning suspense, supernatural elements, and unique perspective, this spectral film attests to Soderbergh's mastery of atmosphere and signature ability to bend cinematic genres. Its chilling tension builds, lingering long after the credits roll.
